Hayes County 4-H & FFA Project Grant The Hayes County Farm Bureau Project Grant will be offered to 4-H & FFA students that show in Hayes
County. The purpose of the grant is to provide funds for students to begin or expand their 4-H or FFA
projects. There is no limit to the scale of the project – students are awarded money on the basis of
their project summary, goals, and financial needs. If selected, the student must share how they have
used the grant towards growing or starting their project at the county’s annual meeting. The money

Children of Warrior's Scholarship

direct descendants of veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces during eligibility dates for membership in The American Legion: April 6, 1917, to November 11, 1918; and any time after December 7, 1941. Membership in The American Legion Family is not required for this scholarship; applicants must be in their senior year of high school planning to attend an accredited institution of higher education, and must have completed 50 hours of volunteer service within the community during their high school years.

Candidates for this award shall be/shall have been Junior members of the American Legion Auxiliary, have held membership in the American Legion Auxiliary for the past three consecutive years (2020, 2021, and 2022), and must be a paid member for the current (2023) membership year. Applicant must continue their membership in the American Legion Auxiliary during the scholarship period 5 @ $5,000 each March 1

Junior Member Loyalty Scholarship

Candidates for this award shall have been Junior members of the American Legion Auxiliary, held membership in the American Legion Auxiliary for the past three consecutive years (2020, 2021, and 2022) and be a paid member for the current (2023) membership year. Applicant must continue their membership in the American Legion Auxiliary during the scholarship period. 10 @ $2,500 March 1

must be a current high school senior with at least a B average in the last two semesters; must be enrolled in an accredited college or university; must be a Nebraska resident for at least the last three years; must be a daughter, son, granddaughter, grandson, great granddaughter or greatgrandson of an American Legion or American Legion Auxiliary or Sons of the American Legion member who has held NE membership for two years. Ruby Paul Campaign Fund Scholarship

daughter, son, granddaughter, grandson, great-granddaughter or great-grandson of an American Legion or to an American Legion Auxiliary member who has held Nebraska membership for two years or to an American Legion, American Auxiliary, or Sons of the American Legion member who has held Nebraska membership for two years.  Applicant MUST be enrolled in an accredited college or university for the current year and be a Nebraska resident for the previous three (3) years, and must be a high school senior or a graduate of an accredited high school and have maintained a “B” or better average for the past two (2) semesters of high school.  If selected the scholarship must be used within the year selected.

American Legion Eagle Scout of the Year Scholarship

 

 Eagle Scout who best meets the qualifications outlined in the Nomination Application and will advance to national competition for the chance to receive a $10,000 scholarship. Three second-place scholarship awards will be given in the amount of $2,500 each. Scholarship recipients will be eligible to receive their scholarships immediately upon graduation from a state accredited high school (public, parochial, military, private, or home school) and must utilize the total award within four (4) years of their graduation date, excluding active military duty. $500 March 1

Edgar J. Boschult Memorial Scholarship

 

full-time students in the University of Nebraska system who are enrolled in the Army, Air Force and Naval Science courses at the University. ROTC recipients must show qualities of leadership and aptitude for military or naval science, have a satisfactory scholastic record and be deemed worthy of financial assistance. $500 March 1

Maynard Jensen American Legion Memorial Scholarship

 

high school graduate or be earning sufficient credits to graduate from high school at the conclusion of the spring semester, or be enrolled full time in a post-secondary institution as of the application deadline date of March 1st. They must also be sons or daughters, grandchildren or great-grandchildren, adopted or stepchildren of members of The American Legion, Department of Nebraska, or POW, MIA, KIA, or any veteran that was a current American Legion member at the time of death. $1,000 March 1

UNK Opportunity Fund

The late Mr. Paul Wagner, an alumnus of the college, has created this scholarship.  His goal was to assist a student, annually, who otherwise would be unable to enroll without this help. 

 

  1. High school graduate from a Class C or D Nebraska High School.
  2. The student must be admitted to UNK.
  3. The student must NOT have any other scholarships from UNK
    1)      Describe a challenge or obstacle you have overcome in your life. How has this experience influenced who you are today? 2)      How will enrolling and graduating from UNK help you achieve the goals you have for your future?  Your answers for both should fit on one 8 l/2 X 11 page and should be sent to the Office of Financial Aid.  Please indicate this is an application for the UNK Opportunity Fund.  Also please include your name, email address and permanent home address on your application.  Applications are due to this office by March 27, 2023. A committee will review your answers and you will be notified of the committee’s decision by April 21.  Do not hesitate to contact our staff in the financial aid office if you have any questions regarding this scholarship at (308)865-8520 or finaid1@unk.edu

This award is available to high school seniors whose parent(s) is currently employed by or who has retired from Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad. Must be a Nebraska resident who plans to attend a Nebraska institution of higher learning, and must have at least a 2.5 GPA. $1,000 March 31

Robert Milton Culinary Arts Scholarship

This award is available to high school seniors who plan on majoring in Culinary Arts or Food Service. Must be a Nebraska resident who plans to attend a Nebraska institution of higher learning, and must have at least a 2.75 GPA. $1,000 March 31

Sowers Club of Nebraska Scholarship for High School Seniors

This award is available to Nebraska high school seniors with at least a 3.0 high school GPA who plan to attend a Nebraska institution of higher learning. Applicants may major in any field of study. $1,000 March 31

Barbara Fassler-Neumann Nursing Scholarship

resident of SW Nebraska; pursue a degree or certification in nursing or another related medical field at an accredited college, community college, or vocational school $1,000 March 31

Bernard and Nelda Haag Memorial Scholarship

preference to students passionate about ag and who want to return to SW Nebraska; must live in Red Willow, Frontier, Hayes, Hitchcock, or Furnas county $1,000 March 31

Nebraska Society of Mayflower Descendants Burt & Becky Whedon Memorial Scholarship

This year’s essay topic focuses on The Mayflower Pilgrims:

Choose one Pilgrim from the 51 Mayflower passengers who left descendants and write about his or her contribution to Plymouth Colony and his or her place in History.

The essay must include references to document the facts in the letter. Essays will be evaluated for content, organization, style, grammar and creativity. Sources must be cited in appropriate bibliographic style.

Nebraska Poultry Education Scholarship Nebraska residents, those attending school in Nebraska, or those interested in a career in poultry-based in Nebraska are encouraged to apply for the 2023-2024 Nebraska Poultry Education Scholarship.  A total of eight $1,000 scholarships can be awarded for the 2023-2024 academic year. The eight scholarships are awarded based on college credit hours completed (0-26 Freshman, 27-52 Sophomore, 53-88 Junior, 89 or more Senior, Bachelors Degree as of June 2023 Post-Grad). Engler Entrepreneurship Program Scholarship to UNL

This scholarship is available due to the generosity of The Paul and Virginia Engler Foundation. Paul is a native Nebraskan who through vision, hard work, sweat equity and tenacity built an exceptional career as an entrepreneur, industry leader, and dedicated advocate for building bridges for the next generation to cross. It is our honor and privilege to administer the thoughtful and intentional process of selecting scholarship recipients. However, the scholarship is only a small component of the value available to you through engagement in the Engler Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Program.

Must have FFA or 4-H experience, and must be a CASNR student at UNL.

Selection is based on intellectual promise, creativity, and character of the applicant.
