I grew up in Grant, Nebraska and graduated from Grant High School. After high school I went to Nebraska Wesleyan university and received a Bachelor of science degree in Biology. I have also received a Masters of Arts degree in Education for 7-12 Principalship from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
My wife Pam and I have been married for 30 years and have four boys. She runs Pet Pros in McCook and does dog grooming, boarding, and training. Our oldest son Brian is a wildlife biologist in Battleground, Indiana where he is the assistant curator of Wolf Park and head curator of their bison herd. Our next son is Cory and he is a civil engineer in Sioux City, Iowa. He enjoys working with bridge structures and design. Kyle is a senior at Doane College. He will graduate with a degree in Environmental Biology and is on the track team. Coach Gye has been a great inspiration to him. He is interested in a job with the Game and Parks or as a park ranger. Greg is a junior at Wauneta-Palisade and likes school, basketball, track and showing livestock.
I am teaching biology, physical science, ag classes, and am the FFA advisor. Last year I taught biology and advanced biology at Garden City High School in Kansas. Before that I was the 7-12 principal at South Platte School in Big Springs, Nebraska. Prior to that I owned and operated Gaston Lawns and Landscapes for over twenty years. After college I taught at St. Paul, Nebraska, McCook, and Dundy County in Benkelman. I was an assistant coach in many sports and head basketball coach.
Even though I was out of education for many years, I was never far removed from it. I coached many youth sports and travel teams as my boys grew up. Coming back to education was an easy choice as I have believed that all children can learn. I have continued to learn along the way in completing a masters degree and now with the ag program. The established programs will continue and new programs will be established as we move forward. Learning is a lifelong process.
As we move forward, I would like to create the conditions for all children to gain the knowledge, skills, and behaviors necessary to be productive in a changing world. Today is a great day to be a BRONCO!
